ACCOUNTANT
Position Summary
Loanhouse is seeking a knowledgeable, analytical, and technology-driven Accountant to support the company’s financial reporting, loan-level accounting, reconciliations, cash management, and internal controls.
This individual will help ensure that financial activity is recorded completely, accurately, and timely while supporting the specialized accounting requirements of a mortgage banking organization.
The ideal candidate combines strong accounting fundamentals with exceptional attention to detail, an understanding of operational data, and a desire to use technology and artificial intelligence to improve financial accuracy, reporting, and efficiency.
The Opportunity
As a Loanhouse Accountant, you will work at the intersection of finance, mortgage operations, and proprietary technology. You will help ensure that transactions occurring throughout the loan lifecycle are properly captured and reconciled within the company’s accounting records.
You will also help us develop AI-supported accounting workflows within LOiS that connect loan-level activity with financial reporting, automate routine reconciliations, identify unusual transactions, and improve management’s access to reliable financial information.
Key Responsibilities
• Record and reconcile daily, monthly, and period-end financial activity accurately and timely.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and general-ledger analyses.
• Reconcile operating accounts, custodial accounts, warehouse accounts, funding activity, loan-sale proceeds, investor remittances, and other cash transactions.
• Track loan-level funding, purchase, sale, payoff, premium, discount, fee, expense, and settlement activity.
• Reconcile loans held for sale and related balances to LOiS, warehouse reports, investor purchase advices, and the general ledger.
• Review investor purchase advices and confirm that principal, premiums, discounts, fees, holdbacks, and other amounts have been recorded correctly.
• Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued expenses, prepaid items, and other balance-sheet accounts.
• Assist with warehouse interest, curtailments, collateral activity, and loan-level profitability reporting.
• Support month-end and year-end closing procedures and the preparation of financial statements.
• Assist with budgets, forecasts, cash-flow reporting, management reports, and financial-performance analysis.
• Maintain organized documentation supporting financial transactions, account balances, and reconciliations.
• Assist external accountants, auditors, tax professionals, investors, lenders, and regulators by providing accurate schedules and supporting information.
• Identify accounting discrepancies, control weaknesses, or unusual transactions and escalate them appropriately.
• Support the continued development and documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
How You Will Help Us Innovate
• Help define how loan-level events and operational data within LOiS should connect to accounting records and financial reporting.
• Identify routine journal entries, reconciliations, classifications, and reporting processes that can be automated.
• Evaluate AI-generated reconciliations, exception reports, transaction classifications, and financial analyses for accuracy and relevance.
• Help develop intelligent controls that detect missing entries, duplicate transactions, unusual balances, inconsistent data, and unreconciled activity.
• Recommend dashboards and reports that provide management with timely visibility into cash, warehouse exposure, loan profitability, receivables, and financial performance.
• Analyze recurring accounting discrepancies and help improve upstream operational processes and data integrity.
• Ensure that automation strengthens internal controls while preserving appropriate review, approval, and segregation of duties.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this position means maintaining accurate books and records, completing reconciliations on time, identifying discrepancies promptly, and producing dependable financial information for management and external stakeholders.
Performance may be measured through reconciliation accuracy, close-cycle timing, correcting-entry frequency, unresolved-item aging, reporting accuracy, audit findings, data integrity, documentation quality, and the effectiveness of financial controls.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
• Professional accounting experience involving general-ledger activity, reconciliations, financial reporting, or cash management.
• Mortgage banking, financial services, warehouse lending, or loan-level accounting experience is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and fundamental internal-control practices.
• Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, data exports, and financial-reporting tools.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to investigate differences across multiple systems, reports, accounts, and transactions.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple priorities.
• Comfort working with financial technology, automated workflows, data integrations, and AI-assisted accounting tools.
• High standards of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professional judgment.
